Akot Clinic

This past year our small clinic in Akot saw over 26,000 out patients and approximately 3000 in patients in our three wards. Wycliffe, the clinic director, is our only staff member from outside of Akot. He has been running the clinic for the past three years and, though greatly overworked, does a superb job. Our staff number approximately 24 people, from MA’s to nurses to cleaners.

We operate the clinic entirely by special gifts given to us. One of our major sources is Human Needs funds from the IMB. Without this support we would have to close down until alternate sources could be found.

This clinic is indirectly responsible for all of the church planting efforts we are able to carry out in the area. It has enabled us to reach out to the community in a holistic way to meets both physical and spiritual needs. We have a chaplain at the clinic who visits with discharged patients as well as witnessing to those who are being treated at the clinic.

This work has led us to do a Community Health Care project, headed up by Wycliffe’s wife, Janet, which reaches far beyond the borders of the clinic. Our team goes into homes, schools, water wells and market areas to teach and train the community in better hygiene practices. When our Bible storyers pass through these areas the Baptist name is already well know due to the work of our CHC team.

Our volunteer medical teams are another benefit that has come as a direct result of our involvement with the clinic. We hope to be able to continue to bring highly qualified personnel to this region to see patients who live in the bush and cannot afford to walk a couple of days for medical treatment.  (Check out the “Volunteer” page)

We have recently been blessed to take a small clinic team up to another area about two hours north of us by small plane to assist them with medical help. In the future we will be alert for other places the Lord may be opening up to our assistance and the spread of the gospel message.
